Difference Between Influence and Persuasion

The difference between persuasion and influence is quite obvious. It is very easy to make out the difference when you understand the principles that govern the two methods. There is a fundamental difference between the two. They are certainly related to each other; when influence with individuals it makes much more effective; when persuasion with individuals it also allows to develop greater influence over people.

What is the most important difference between persuasion and influence? They are both equally powerful but the way in which they are used have to be distinctively different. How can you determine the difference between these two methods? Look at them as diametrically opposite concepts and see if these ideas can be separated out. You should try to find a difference in the way you use persuasion.

When you persuade someone, it is not that you are telling them something that they do not want to hear. You can only persuade someone by showing them. Persuasion is about persuasion, it is not the same as the manipulation of people that are involved in all forms of influence. The difference lies in the power of your Influence and Persuasion. You cannot make someone listen to you if they do not want to listen to you. Your ability to persuade is based on your level of influence and your ability to demonstrate to the person you are trying to influence why they need to listen to you.

A lot of people think that there is no such thing as power. That you either have influence or power. This is totally false. You can either have the power to influence or the power to persuade, but you have both but you will only ever have influence if you have power over people.

When you are using the power of persuasion, it is not about you control someone else. You can use the power of persuasion without being in charge. You can be in charge when you use the power of persuasion but you will never have power when you are in control. No matter how you use persuasion it is always about controlling the other person. The power of persuasion is all about being able to convince and persuade people rather than controlling them.

There is a difference between the power of persuasion and the power of influence. You can use the power of influence to influence but you can never have any power over people without being in control of the other person. You will only ever have power over people if you have the power to persuade them. In order to develop this power of persuasion you must use Influence and Persuasion with people and you must always have the power to persuade people to do what you want.
