Understanding Mental Health
Mental Health is
often the result of stress and mental illness in people and can also be related
to other aspects of your lifestyle. Mental Health is the condition of being
"functioning at an acceptable level of psychological and behavioural
adjustment." This condition of mental health can take the form of:
The state of "psychological health" can be considered
as a person's mental state of overall mental wellness and well-being,
regardless of the specific reasons that lead him/her to having the conditions.
The term "psychological health" may also refer to the general quality
of one's life, including the way one perceives oneself, the quality of one's
relationships, and one's overall quality of life. Psychological health can be
related to the quality of one's health, which can be measured by an
individual's physical well-being, mental health, and
mental health status. These factors can be assessed and evaluated using a
variety of techniques that include self-reporting and rating scales,
psychometric tests, and interviews.
There are many factors that can contribute to a person's mental
health, such as, the person's family background, personal experiences, and the
stressors he/she has been exposed to in the past. The different ways to assess
mental health condition include self-rating questionnaires and psychometric
tests. This type of self-diagnosis or self-rating instrument is based on the
answers a person gives to questions about his/her general health, the quality
of one's relationship with friends, family, colleagues, and the quality of
one's relationships with one's supervisors, co-workers, and other external
forces in the life of the person.
Although the definition of "mental health"
is not fixed, there are some common terms that are used for mental health, such
as, "depression anxiety". It is important for patients to remember
that the term "depression" encompasses a wide range of symptoms that
do not necessarily indicate that a person has a major depression or a major
anxiety disorder, nor does it indicate that the person does have one of these
illnesses. Depression is a common psychological illness that is associated with
many other conditions. Some of the common illnesses that can be caused by
depression include insomnia, difficulty sleeping, irritability, and loss of
concentration.
The most frequent reason for self-diagnosis of depression and
other types of mental health conditions is to cope with current problems in the
workplace. In cases of workplace stress, it is recommended for an employee to
consult a physician or a qualified mental health professional so that he/she
can obtain appropriate treatment. The occupational therapist will help a worker
to gain insight into his/her specific problems.
For those individuals who are suffering from a mental health
condition, it is very important to remember that they should seek professional
help immediately in order to minimize any further damage or worsening of their
condition. If this is a life-threatening situation, it is important to seek
medical help right away, especially if the condition is not the result of a
physical illness. However, in some cases, a life-saving measure of the
condition may require medication.
